Sagrado Coraz\u00f3n University<\/a>, in partnership with health services company TeleMedik<\/a>, launched an educational campaign about how to celebrate the 2020 Christmas festivities safely. \u201cCelebra de coraz\u00f3n #NoInvitesAlCOVID19\u201d [Celebrate from your heart #DoNotInviteCOVID19] seeks to provide tips and ideas to celebrate without spreading the virus.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe longest Christmas season in the world is about to start and we all want to celebrate as a family. However, these encounters can increase the chances of contracting or spreading COVID-19,\u201d said Dr. Peter Barbosa, director of Sagrado\u2019s Department of Natural Sciences<\/a> and an expert in virology and immunology. \u201cWe wanted to carry out this educational campaign to give families options on how to enjoy this season, but in a safe way,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the goals of the campaign is to offer practical and safe ideas on how to celebrate in times of a pandemic. Dr. Joaqu\u00edn Fern\u00e1ndez, president of TeleMedik, has been leading various medical surveillance programs during the pandemic and explained that \u201cthe safest way to celebrate is with family members who live under the same roof.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He highlighted that the three highest risk factors for the spread of COVID-19 are crowds of people, closed spaces without appropriate ventilation, and extended contact.<\/strong> \u201cCases are likely to increase if many people combine the three factors when meeting at family dinners or with friends. According to statistics from the Health Department, 67 percent of outbreaks arise from family encounters,\u201d explained Fern\u00e1ndez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe know we are entering a time that means sharing and celebrating. We\u2019re not saying \u2018don\u2019t do that.\u2019 Our advice is to do it in a different and responsible way,\u201d added Barbosa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ideas and tips for celebrating safely are available at www.sagrado.edu\/celebra<\/a>. <\/strong>The site also includes interesting information about the most common symptoms, types of tests available, a form from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to determine whether to seek medical attention, and advice on where to keep and how to wash masks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campaign will run through Sagrado and TeleMedik social networks<\/a>, as well as billboards around the whole island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
