She is not alone. She is joined by 124 other female monuments standing in the garden and interiors of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northparkcenter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NorthPark Center<\/a> mall in Dallas, Texas. It is the <strong>3D statue of one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sagrado.edu\/junta-de-sindicos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sagrado\u2019s Board of Trustees<\/a><\/strong>, Dr. Greetchen D\u00edaz Mu\u00f1oz, director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cienciapr.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Science Education Program and Community Alliances of Puerto Rico<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>D\u00edaz Mu\u00f1oz was selected as an ambassador for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifthenshecan.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IF\/THEN<\/a><\/strong>, an initiative of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lydahillphilanthropies.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lyda Hill Philanthropies<\/a> designed to galvanize cultural change among girls and young women and motivate them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ifthenexhibit.org\/es\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">#IfThenSheCan: The Exhibit<\/a>, which <strong>features 125 statues of outstanding women in STEM careers<\/strong>, opened recently with the support of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aaas.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American Association for the Advancement of Science<\/a>. Each piece has a QR Code, which allows the viewer to read about the scientist\u2019s biography, education, and professional contributions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/insagrado.sagrado.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/E1tiraoXsAAvw61.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/insagrado.sagrado.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/E1tiraoXsAAvw61-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30914\" width=\"795\" height=\"596\" srcset=\"https:\/\/insagrado.sagrado.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/E1tiraoXsAAvw61-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/insagrado.sagrado.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/E1tiraoXsAAvw61-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/insagrado.sagrado.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/E1tiraoXsAAvw61-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/insagrado.sagrado.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/E1tiraoXsAAvw61.jpg 1400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 795px) 100vw, 795px\" \/><\/a><figcaption><em>IfThenSheCan: The Exhibit (photo supplied)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is like a door.<strong> I see it as an opportunity to represent Puerto Rico and the work of its scientists<\/strong>; in addition to contributing to the most significant project of my life, which is to empower, inspire, and educate future science professionals who are just girls now,\u201d said the founder of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cienciapr.org\/es\/seeds-success\/semillas-de-triunfo-programa-de-chicas-embajadoras-stem\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Semillas de Triunfo<\/a><\/em> (Seeds of Success), a program that promotes getting women acquainted with science, as well as developing their leadership skills through a community component that enables young women to generate projects with an impact in their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to this biologist, the experience with the exhibit was quite a surprise with adventurous nuances. \u201cI went into a booth where they had a 360-degree camera and I did not leave the microscope, since they gave us the option of carrying a symbol with which we identified ourselves,\u201d she recalled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Another objective of said educational art event is to emphasize the topic of gender equity. <\/strong>\u201cIn the United States, for every ten monuments erected to men there is only one that highlights a woman,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two other Puerto Rican scientists were honored along with Sagrado\u2019s trustee: Dr. Roselin Rosario Mel\u00e9ndez, a chemist that works in the cosmetics industry, and Dr. Minerva Cordero Bra\u00f1a, Dean of Arts and Sciences at the University of Texas at Arlington.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Puerto Rican scientist Greetchen D\u00edaz Mu\u00f1oz is part of #IfThenSheCan: The Exhibit.
