The news story 53 mujeres muertas en 47 semanas. \u00bfY el Estado, qu\u00e9?<\/a><\/strong> (53 women dead in 47 weeks. And what about the Government?), written by two Ferr\u00e9 Rangel School of Communication <\/a><\/strong>(ECFR, Spanish acronym) alumni, received an award by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists<\/a><\/strong> (NAHJ) in the category of Latino Issues Students Print- Online<\/em> Journalist<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Genesis Gonz\u00e1lez D\u00edaz<\/strong> and Genesis Rodr\u00edguez Torres<\/strong> developed their work in EntreMedios, a journalistic mentoring project for students at Sagrado Coraz\u00f3n University<\/a><\/strong>, and it was published in the digital news outlet ONCE<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During an interview with inSagrado<\/strong>, both thanked Professor Lillian Agosto, leader of the EntreMedios project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are grateful for the recognition, but above all, for the work done. The story gave prominence to the situation of women who were afraid to tell of their experience. Gender violence is a worrying reality. It\u2019s astonishing that \u2013 right in the 21st century \u2013 it keeps happening.\u201d<\/p>G\u00e9nesis Gonz\u00e1lez D\u00edaz<\/strong>,

Meanwhile, Rodr\u00edguez Torres assured that the award motivates young journalists in training. \u201cMany times, we do not appreciate our potential, we devalue ourselves. It is important that this work is also shown outside of Puerto Rico,\u201d she said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rodr\u00edguez Torres is currently completing a master’s degree in Journalism and Science, Technology, Environment, and Health Communication at the Carlos Tercero University in Madrid, while working at WAPA TV. As for Gonz\u00e1lez D\u00edaz, she is pursuing a Master of Arts in Public Relations and Integrated Communication<\/a><\/strong> at Sagrado, looking to later specialize in Television Meteorology at Mississippi State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
