Barcel\u00f3 Square in Barrio Obrero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the main event of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nuestrobarrio.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Nuestro Barrio<\/em>: Santurce Cultural District<\/a><\/strong>, a project of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sagrado.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sagrado Coraz\u00f3n University<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis festival honored the work of female leaders who are \u201ccangrejeras\u201d and work for the community: Awilda Camacho, Lucy Cruz, Carmen Febres, and Nilka Marrero, from Barrio Obrero; Gertrudis Calder\u00f3n, from Cantera; Ana Marchena, from Casa Dominicana; Wanda Soto and Irma Fuentes, from Playita; and Carmen Montoto, from Parada 26 and Sagrado Coraz\u00f3n,\u201d said Ana Serrano, community liaisons director at Sagrado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em>Nuestro Barrio<\/em> Fest also highlighted Afro culture through poetry, with declamations by Mayra Santos Febres, Willie Perdomo, Silo\u00e9 Andino, Welmo Romero, and Ana Castillo Mu\u00f1oz, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also provided a space for merchants in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great opportunity for businesses to come and market their products, do some networking and, at the same time, share with the communities around to the university,\u201d said Santiago Ram\u00edrez, innovation and marketing liaison for <em>Nuestro Barrio<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The public danced with Choco Orta, Lizbeth Rom\u00e1n, Melina Le\u00f3n and Maracatu Caribe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>\u201cActivities such as the <\/em>Nuestro Barrio<em> Fest not only serve to celebrate, but also to educate and achieve an understanding of the struggles and history of Santurce.\u201d<\/em><\/p><cite><strong><em>Gilberto Marxuach-Torros<\/em><\/strong><em>,<\/em><br><em>President of Sagrado<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Nuestro Barrio<\/em> was <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nuestrobarrio.org\/somos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">born in Sagrado<\/a><\/strong> and works toward the strategic and participatory creation of the Santurce Cultural District in an inclusive and sustainable way.
