The Board of Trustees of Sagrado Coraz\u00f3n University<\/a><\/strong> will confer two honorary degrees at
Graduation 2022, the president of the institution, Gilberto Marxuach-Torr\u00f3s<\/strong>, announced today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Emeritus<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the ceremony, which will take place on Sunday, June 12, Nelson Hern\u00e1ndez Rom\u00e1n<\/strong>,
professor of humanities and history with 42 years of distinguished career at Sagrado, will be
recognized as professor emeritus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDuring his career as an educator, Nelson touched the lives of thousands of students with his enthusiasm and dedication. He contributed significantly to curricular innovation with the design of humanities and history courses in the distance learning mode, as well as the creation of the courses Science through History; History, Music, and Society; and The History of Pacifist Ideas,\u201d Marxuach-Torr\u00f3s said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Hern\u00e1ndez Rom\u00e1n promoted research and academic exchange through his multiple presentations on topics and historical figures, in addition to standing out for his mentorship to students and colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHis dedication has been a model for our entire university community, which in 2019 recognized him with the Award for Excellence in Teaching,\u201d the president added to inSagrado<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doctor Honoris Causa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, an honorary doctorate in Arts will be awarded to Miguel Zen\u00f3n<\/strong> for his
outstanding career as a saxophonist, composer, arranger, and cultural manager; distinguishing
himself on the international stage for his interpretation of Puerto Rican traditional music.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the National Foundation for Popular Culture, his musical productions Esta Plena and Alma Adentro received nominations for Grammy Awards. He is also the only Puerto Rican musician who has been a recipient of two very prestigious awards: the Guggenheim and the McArthur scholarships. <\/strong>Through the McArthur scholarship, known as \u201cthe genius grant,\u201d he developed the Caravana Cultural project in order to expose hundreds of young people and adults to jazz for the first time in rural areas of the Island.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Zen\u00f3n will celebrate this distinction, together with the university community and the general
public, on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. at the Emilio S. Belaval Theater. Those
