It is a privilege to receive an education like this, in other countries \u2013 sadly \u2013 \u200b\u200bthey do not,\u201d said Figueroa, auxiliary bishop of San Juan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The offerings included bread and wine; diplomas and a cap, representing education; the Alumni pins, as a connection to Sagrado; and the Rosa Filipina Duchesne medal.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After communion, the <em>Solidarios<\/em> Class of 2022 was consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus: \u201cStand to humbly receive that flame of love from the heart of Jesus, which is transmitted to you today (June 9); so that it continues to provide light in our society,\u201d said Sister Madeline Ortiz, Dean of Student Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This Eucharist also served to remember the life of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insagrado.sagrado.edu\/en\/sagrado-mourns-the-passing-of-professor-edgar-quiles%ef%bf%bc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dr. Edgar Quiles<\/a><\/strong>, professor and founder of the Sagrado Theater program, who passed away this month; as well as that of Mar\u00eda Ortiz and Cisa Galarza, sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"La Misa de Graduaci\u00f3n 2022\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZtIGmCULcN8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rosa Filipina Duchesne Medal<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mass included a moment in which the Rosa Filipina Duchesne Medal was awarded to alumna <strong>Mar\u00eda del Carmen Santiago Valent\u00edn<\/strong>, a distinction handed to her by <strong>\u00c1ngel Torres<\/strong>, president of Sagrado\u2019s Board of Trustees, and <strong>Gilberto Marxuach-Torr\u00f3s<\/strong>, president of our university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Santiago Valent\u00edn graduated from Sagrado with a bachelor\u2019s degree in Languages \u200b\u200band Literature in 1991, and pursued master\u2019s degrees in Literary Translation, French Literature, and Foreign Language Teaching Methodology, in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She fights for education and the inclusion of language programs in school curriculums, as well as for social and environmental justice; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/insagrado.sagrado.edu\/en\/maria-santiago-valentin-to-receive-the-fourth-rosa-filipina-duchesne-medal%ef%bf%bc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">her philanthropic work is global<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, the Board of Trustees of Sagrado Coraz\u00f3n University instituted the Rosa Filipina Duchesne Medal to honor the life of service of persons who, like her, crossed borders through service and whose proliferating ability to help others moves people to charity work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rosa Filipina Duchesne is the religious sister and foundress of the Sacred Heart Schools in America, the first missionary born in France (in 1769) to be declared a saint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In response, Santiago Valent\u00edn was grateful for the recognition. During her message, she advised the Solidarios 2022 class members in attendance, saying that \u2018[t]hat day (graduation) is not the culmination, but the beginning of new dreams, new challenges.
