Today, three students from Sagrado Coraz\u00f3n University <\/a><\/strong>became recipients of the Don<\/em><\/strong> Tommy Mu\u00f1iz Scholarship<\/strong>, sponsored by Goya de Puerto Rico<\/a><\/strong>. This initiative was developed in honor of the centenary of the late Puerto Rican actor, script writer, and producer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three students are Alejandra Gonz\u00e1lez Cardona, Gabriel De Los Santos Paradizo, and Coralys R\u00edos Figueroa, all majoring in Digital Production at the Ferr\u00e9 Rangel School of Communication<\/a><\/strong> (ECFR, Spanish acronym). To compete for the scholarships, each one was measured against other participants after writing a 23-minute script based on the television comedy \u201cLos Garc\u00eda,\u201d created by Mu\u00f1iz in the 1970s. Then, a jury made up of five teachers and media professionals selected the top entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBy handing out these scholarships, we want to celebrate the contributions made by <\/em>Don Tommy Mu\u00f1iz, and make them known to the new generation of students looking to develop professionally in the media. Additionally, we continue to support our students so that they can achieve their personal and professional goals,\u201d said <\/em>Sara Tolosa Ram\u00edrez<\/em><\/strong>, vice president of Development and University Relations at Sagrado.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

De Los Santos Paradizo won first place<\/strong> and a $3,000 scholarship for his script titled \u201cLa lavadora de Los Garc\u00eda.\u201d Meanwhile, Gonz\u00e1lez Cardona won second place<\/strong> and $1,500 thanks to his script \u201cLos Garc\u00eda se pegaron en la Lotto.\u201d Finally, R\u00edos Figueroa received third place<\/strong> and $500 for \u201cLa pluma.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor Goya of Puerto Rico, it is an honor to be part of Don<\/em> Tommy Mu\u00f1iz\u2019s centenary celebration through the sponsorship of scholarships for these three students. In addition, motivating their creativity and that of all those who participated through scripts for the hit show \u2018Los Garc\u00eda,\u2019 as well as promoting the recognition and value of the script writing profession, is of great importance for the future of Puerto Rican television,\u201d said Ivelisse Rivera Almod\u00f3var<\/strong>, director of Public and Corporate Relations for Goya de Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for Gabriel Paizy Damiani, dean of the ECFR, he added that \u201cin addition to the scholarships, the ECFR will collaborate in the production of the first-place winning script with a view to being presented on television.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mu\u00f1iz, who died in 2009, stood out as one of the pioneers of television in Puerto Rico by producing countless programs, such as: \u201cEsto no tiene nombre\u201d (\u201cThis has no name\u201d); \u201cJa ja, ji ji, jo jo, con Agrelot\u201d (\u201cHa ha, hee hee, ho ho, with Agrelot\u201d); and \u201cLa criada malcriada\u201d (\u201cThe Saucy Maid\u201d), among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
