The School of Arts, Design, and Creative Industries<\/a> (EADIC) at Universidad del Sagrado Coraz\u00f3n and the STARS (Strengthening Teaching of the Arts Through Students) project celebrated the third edition of the Creative Residencies with a series of performances and exhibitions that highlighted the value of interdisciplinary collaboration between resident artists and university students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Held between May 14 and 17, the program featured the concert Nuestra Herencia Ta\u00edna<\/em> by trombonist and composer William Cepeda<\/a>, as well as the exhibition Antes de la forma: Pr\u00e1cticas textiles entre la investigaci\u00f3n, error y repetici\u00f3n<\/em> (\u201cBefore Form: Textile Practices Between Research, Error, and Repetition\u201d), developed by designers Sally Torres Vega<\/a> and Karina Defelippe in collaboration with EADIC students. Both residencies marked the culmination of approximately ten months of research, experimentation, and collaborative creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The concert Nuestra Herencia Ta\u00edna<\/em>, presented at Sagrado\u2019s Emilio S. Belaval Theater, included the screening of a documentary by filmmaker Iv\u00e1n Nieves and a repertoire of original compositions inspired by the contemporary reinterpretation of Ta\u00edno musical traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, designers Sally Torres Vega and Karina Defelippe, along with student collaborators, developed their exhibition as an exploration of textiles as both a narrative medium and a production system. The exhibition incorporated processes ranging from fiber preparation and spinning to experimentation with indigo and \u00edndigo vat dyeing techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both events took place as part of the conclusion of the Creative Residencies program, which stems from EADIC\u2019s academic vision of fostering collaboration between artists and professionals through internships, residencies, performances, exhibitions, and other immersive creative experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Architect Javier de Jes\u00fas Mart\u00ednez, dean of EADIC, emphasized that the program strengthens connections with Puerto Rico\u2019s creative ecosystem by creating opportunities for collaboration among professional artists, emerging artists, and the development of new artistic work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its launch in 2023, the Creative Residencies program has supported artists such as Marcelino Puig-Pastrana, Eunice Jim\u00e9nez Emanuelli, Rigoberto Quintana, and Pedro Adorno, who throughout the process have collaborated with over 50 Sagrado students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Creative Residencies program is made possible through the support of the United States Department of Education\u2019s Hispanic Serving Institutions program and the STARS (Strengthening Teaching of the Arts Through Students) initiative, which provides pedagogical development tools for EADIC faculty, as well as mentorship, stipends, and specialized resources for students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
