On May 14, Universidad del Sagrado Coraz\u00f3n<\/a> unveiled La Mirada del Presente<\/em> (“The Gaze of the Present”), an exhibition showcasing works by students from the School of Arts, Design, and Creative Industries<\/a> (EADIC, per its acronym in Spanish) at the school’s facilities. Each artwork represents a student’s final project, designed to demonstrate the skills they acquired throughout the previous academic semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the featured works is one by D\u00e9bora Cordero Nieves, a Visual Arts graduate with a minor in Photography. Cordero Nieves, who has participated in previous editions of the exhibition and said she felt honored to be included again, was tasked with recreating The Burlington House Cartoon<\/em> by Leonardo da Vinci (1452\u20131519). The assignment was part of her Advanced Drawing course and required her to use charcoal on paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For me, it’s important\u2014not only to exhibit my art, but also because it allows me to recognize the effort I put into creating these pieces. Seeing my work displayed and acknowledged makes me want to work even harder,” Cordero Nieves reflected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the outstanding first-year students were Christian S\u00e1nchez and Diego Espada, who are pursuing degrees in Graphic Design and Industrial Design. As part of their History of Design course, they were assigned to combine two existing design elements to create an original work. Their project incorporated a dress by French fashion designer Jeanne Paquin (1869\u20131936) and the Tropon<\/em> promotional poster by Belgian painter and architect Henry Clemens van de Velde (1863\u20131957).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s important to showcase students’ work because I think it gives them that boost\u2014the feeling that, ‘Look, you can make a living from your art. Your art has value. Your art matters to people,'” S\u00e1nchez said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition is divided into two sections: one dedicated to Visual Arts and Photography, and another featuring Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Fashion, Animation, and Creative Writing. Each work is organized according to the different courses students take throughout their respective academic programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We want students to have the opportunity to exhibit and showcase the work they’ve created throughout the semester, starting from their very first year\u2014that is, from the very first class they take,” said Maite Gonz\u00e1lez P\u00e9rez, academic leader of the Visual Arts program, describing the gallery’s mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The selected works underwent a review process in which EADIC faculty evaluated each piece based on its theme, concept, craftsmanship, cleanliness, and presentation. The final exhibition was curated by Gonz\u00e1lez P\u00e9rez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
