During 2025, the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón celebrated 145 years of the educational project of the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Puerto Rico, a legacy that began in 1880 and continues to define its formative mission, vocation of service, and impact on the academic, social, and spiritual life of the country.

Founded by visionary women who understood education as a tool for social transformation, Sagrado reaffirmed during this anniversary its commitment to an integral education centered on knowledge, community service, and openness to the world. This historical legacy was reflected not only in institutional memory, but also in concrete initiatives and achievements that marked the academic year.

Among them was the tenth anniversary of CoMesa, a project that embodies the institution’s social commitment and has served more than 55,000 meals over a decade, becoming a pillar of food security for students and residents of the Santurce community.

The educational mission was also evident in the 86th Commencement, during which 938 students completed their studies in undergraduate, graduate, and associate degree programs. As part of the ceremony, the University conferred an honorary doctorate upon Gloria Viscasillas Aponte, in recognition of her contributions to entrepreneurship education and her impact on Puerto Rico’s social and economic transformation.

As part of the anniversary observance, the University’s Main Chapel was declared a Holy Site and Holy Door during the Jubilee Year 2025, reinforcing its spiritual, historical, and patrimonial value as a space for encounter and reflection for the university community and the broader public.

The year was also marked by a forward-looking vision. Sagrado continued to expand its academic infrastructure, including the inauguration of the first phase of the new School of Business. This was complemented by an expanded academic offering, with the creation of a bilingual bachelor’s degree in Business Analysis and new minors in strategic areas such as Finance, Global Supply Chain, and Talent Management.

As part of its commitment to access and student retention in higher education, the University allocated nearly $2 million in scholarships and financial aid to more than 1,000 students, while strengthening student support initiatives such as the implementation of the Uber Campus program, becoming the first university in Puerto Rico and Latin America to adopt this mobility solution.

Sagrado’s formative vocation also extended to the field of health through the formalization of mentorship agreements with the Dr. Raúl García Rinaldi Foundation, Adler Clinics, the Puerto Rico Psychological Association (APPR), and GUS Medical Schools, integrating hands-on experiences in clinical settings and promoting dynamic learning opportunities.

In keeping with its Catholic identity and international outlook, the University joined the CHARISM international alliance, strengthening its presence within a network of institutions committed to excellent, inclusive, and globally oriented education. CHARISM represents a strategic collaboration that brings together four Catholic universities with a strong vocation for service.

Finally, the University presented its new strategic plan, Sagrado 2030, a roadmap that will guide its progress toward becoming a global, innovative university committed to academic excellence, social impact, and its institutional mission, as it approaches the celebration of 150 years of the Sacred Heart educational project in Puerto Rico.

At 145 years since its founding, the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón continues to build the future upon a legacy that brings together history, service, and transformative education.
