The Business Field Experiences initiative took a group of students from Sagrado’s School of Business to observe the agricultural and business operations of Martex Farms in Santa Isabel. The visit took place on September 19, 2025, with the participation of 14 students, three faculty members, and two administrative representatives.
The group toured the facilities and learned firsthand how one of the island’s most important agricultural companies operates. Students visited production areas, observed distribution processes, and learned about resource management, in addition to participating in conversations with the organization’s leadership.
For Veny L. Marti, president of Martex Farms, welcoming the group was part of a commitment to education and emerging talent: “It was a pleasure to spend a field day at Martex Farms with the students from the School of Business at the University of the Sacred Heart,” said Marti.
The experience also left a strong impression on the participants. For Eleonor Salas Pizarro, a student in the Business Development and Management Program, the visit exceeded her expectations. “We were able to see and take part in how a business dedicated to agriculture in Puerto Rico operates and understand its impact on our economy. I love that the School of Business gives us the opportunity to live such diverse experiences outside the classroom,” she noted.
Business Field Experiences is an institutional initiative designed to connect academic knowledge with real-world settings. Through these visits, students interact with professionals across different industries, gain insight into how companies function in their natural environments, and develop skills that will serve them in their future careers.
The visit to Martex Farms not only introduced the group to a successful local business model, but also reaffirmed the importance of agriculture as an economic driver and a space for innovation for the next generation.
