The Dolphins of the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón (USC) have had a promising start to the new season of the Liga Atlética Interuniversitaria (LAI), which officially began on September 5 with tennis at the Honda Tennis Center in Bayamón. One month into the competition, Sagrado’s teams have shown discipline, effort, and noticeable progress across several sports.

Volleyball: Undefeated and Dominant

The volleyball team has been one of the biggest surprises this semester. In both the women’s and men’s divisions, Sagrado holds first place and remains undefeated after seven matches. Since their opening game on September 10 against the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico (PUPR), the Dolphins have not lost a single match. Their most recent win against the University of Puerto Rico in Ponce (UPRP) reaffirmed their dominance on the court and their championship ambitions.

Tennis: In the Race for the Lead

In women’s tennis, the Dolphins are currently in third place with a solid record of five wins and two losses, both against the Ana G. Méndez University (UAGM) and the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, the current leader. On the men’s side, Sagrado stands in second place after a single loss to UAGM but has shown consistency in the rest of its matchups.

Swimming: Champions Still Shining

The swimming team continues to prove why Sagrado is an aquatic powerhouse in the LAI. In the first qualifying meet held on September 27 at the Carlos Berrocal Aquatic Complex of the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (UPRM), the team began defending its title with an outstanding performance.

In the women’s division, Sagrado earned 126 points, while the men’s team scored 101, placing first in both categories and sending a clear message that their goal is to retain the championship.

Men’s Soccer: Resilience and Growth

In men’s soccer, the Dolphins continue working to climb the standings and are currently in seventh place. The team has shown determination, with a victory against the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo (UPRA), two draws against UAGM and the University of Puerto Rico at Cayey (UPRC), and two defeats against UPRM and UPRP.

Forward Bryan Laboy Vega stands out as the team’s top scorer with four goals this season, demonstrating his leadership and commitment on the field.

A Promising Season

The overall performance of the Dolphins reflects a university committed to athletic excellence. With leading teams, standout athletes, and a growing competitive spirit, USC continues to establish itself as a respected force in the LAI.

The university community remains attentive and proud of the progress of its teams, who continue to demonstrate that at Sagrado, passion, discipline, and teamwork are the key to success.
