The initiative connects high school education with development in a university setting to facilitate students’ transition to college.

As part of its pre-college initiatives, Universidad del Sagrado Corazón recently welcomed 120 tenth- and eleventh-grade students from LEAP STEAM + Sports Sciences University School of Carolina for the first edition of the Sagrado Pre-College Bootcamp, an orientation event designed to familiarize students with the university environment and the dynamics of college life.
During the event, the students learned about the university’s support resources, as well as professional communication strategies, study methods, and other tools aimed at promoting their academic success. They also gained different perspectives on the university environment during a panel featuring deans, faculty members, and academic managers.
“We seek to provide an opportunity for students to interact with the university environment and develop the tools they need to succeed in college,” said Luis Oscar González Alvira, director of Pre-College Initiatives at Universidad del Sagrado Corazón.

As part of this pre-college program, participants will take at least two courses per semester, with credits that will be valid both at their school and at Sagrado. They will also have the opportunity to complete green and civic engagement hours, access standardized test preparation sessions, and join Sagrado Pre-College Next, a network of students who have participated in the program where they can continue developing their skills and accessing support services.
An Institutional Strategy
This initiative responds to one of the key goals of the Sagrado 2030 Strategic Plan: strengthening the academic and student experience through the implementation of pre-college programs, pathway initiatives, and extracurricular activities in partnership with public and private schools, as well as community organizations that address the needs of children, youth, and families.
In this way, Sagrado expands its educational experience by bringing young people closer to college life and creating new opportunities that connect high school education with university education, in alignment with its mission to educate people in their wholeness, bring out the best in each individual, and develop the competencies needed to transform Puerto Rico.
