JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Puerto Rican journalist Jordana Elías Barreiro continues to expand her career in Hispanic media in the United States by becoming the sports anchor for Telemundo Jacksonville, the first and only local Spanish-language newscast in Northeast Florida.
Elías Barreiro, 29, is a graduate of the Digital Production program at Universidad del Sagrado Corazón. Her media career began in radio, where she worked in promotions and traffic segments while also representing nearly eight radio stations in Jacksonville, Florida.
She later joined Action News Jax as a content producer. There, she began presenting brief sports segments for Telemundo Jacksonville while the station’s signal was still in the process of becoming officially established in the local market. That opportunity marked the beginning of her on-camera career in sports broadcasting.
Currently, the Puerto Rican communicator works full-time as a sports reporter focused on creating specialized content for the region’s Hispanic audience, a role through which she also highlights stories of strong interest to the Latino community.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jordana Elías to our news team. Her passion for sports, journalistic rigor, and ability to connect with audiences make her an invaluable addition. We are confident that her energy and experience will further elevate our sports coverage,” said Karen Taffanelli, executive producer of Noticias Jacksonville.
“As a Puerto Rican, it means a great deal to represent our roots and be part of a space that informs and connects with the Hispanic community,” Elías Barreiro said.
Elías Barreiro’s professional journey reflects the growing presence of Puerto Rican talent in Hispanic media across the United States, reinforcing its leadership within a rapidly expanding market such as Jacksonville, Florida.
In this new professional chapter, Elías Barreiro works alongside other Puerto Ricans at Telemundo Jacksonville, including anchor Karen Taffanelli and producer José Colón Rodríguez, who are also graduates of the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón.
