Sagrado Professors Receive Outstanding Teaching Awards from the Student Community

The awards were announced during the Pedagogical Innovation Symposium.

The student community at Universidad del Sagrado Corazón (Sagrado) recently recognized Professor Nahir Ortiz Cardona of the School of General Education and Dr. Rosa Sesentón Pérez of the Ferré Rangel School of Communication through the Student Awards for Exceptional Faculty for the 2025–2026 academic year.

The initiative recognizes professors who, according to students, have had a positive impact on their university journeys through mentorship, support for students’ holistic development, and academic rigor. Following the conclusion of the academic year, the university received 37 nominations across its two award categories: Commitment to Students and Transformative Teaching.

Professor Nahir Ortiz Cardona received the Commitment to Students Award, which honors faculty members who support their students with empathy, respect, and dedication by providing mentorship, guidance, and continuous support throughout their university experience.

Her students described her as an approachable educator who is dedicated and genuinely committed to their learning and well-being. They also highlighted her ability to foster environments of trust and mutual respect where every student feels safe expressing questions and developing to their fullest potential.

Dr. Rosa Sesentón Pérez was honored with the Transformative Teaching Award for encouraging critical analysis, ethical reflection, and the respectful exchange of ideas. This recognition highlights professors who create dynamic, participatory, and meaningful learning experiences that promote critical thinking, creativity, and new ways of learning.

According to her students, Dr. Sesentón Pérez consistently inspires them to practice the field of communication with integrity and a deep commitment to the common good. Through a teaching approach centered on active participation, she has enabled each student to find their voice, recognize the value of their experiences, and understand the social impact of their future profession.

Before the event concluded, the following faculty members who had been nominated were also recognized: Dr. Mariliana Torres Pagán, Professor at the Ferré Rangel School of Communication; Dr. Anuchka Ramos Ruiz, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs; Ángel Correa Ortiz, Production Professor at the Ferré Rangel School of Communication; José Rivera, Professor of International Studies; Orlando Ramos Ruiz, Academic Lead for Audiovisual Production and Film; Dr. Margarita Morell, Professor of General Education; Pauline Olmedo, Academic Lead for Entrepreneurship; Gina Hernández, Academic Lead for Strategic Communication; and Dr. Alba Brugueras Fabre, Assistant Professor of Economics, Statistics, and Research in the School of Business.

The university community takes pride in the transformative work of its faculty members, who contribute every day to Sagrado’s educational mission through their deep knowledge, dedication, and commitment to building a better society.
