Universidad del Sagrado Corazón (Sagrado) awarded an honorary doctorate in Humanities to Sila M. Calderón Serra during its 87th commencement ceremony. The honorary degree was granted in recognition of her distinguished record of public service, leadership, and commitment to social justice and community development in Puerto Rico.

Calderón Serra is “a daughter of the Sacred Heart,” having graduated from the College of the Sacred Heart in Santurce and from Manhattanville College in New York. Her vocation for service has been demonstrated throughout her various roles, from serving as mayor of San Juan and later becoming the first woman to govern Puerto Rico, to her work at the Center for Puerto Rico of the Sila María Calderón Foundation, which promotes initiatives aimed at empowering disadvantaged populations and combating poverty.
