Students and faculty from the Ferré Rangel School of Communication (ECFR, per its acronym in Spanish) recently participated in the 2026 Puerto Rico Film Festival, where they had the opportunity to present projects and learn from professionals in Puerto Rico’s film industry.
As part of the experience, La Última Tanda was held, featuring a selection of film projects created by students in the Audiovisual Production and Film program at the ECFR.
Student participation was also highlighted during the festival’s awards ceremony, where two Sagrado student productions were recognized. The short film Rough Cut, by Adriana Laureano, received the Jury Award, while El Deporte de los Caballeros, by Lucas Rosa Román, received an honorable mention.
The festival program also featured the talk “Del papel a la acción,” presented by Professor Kisha Tikina Burgos of the Audiovisual Production and Film program as part of the CineNXT section. The presentation explored the process of bringing a script to life through hands-on directing exercises. During the workshop, students had the opportunity to experiment with different approaches to directing a scene from La gran desilusión alongside actors. The film, written and directed by Professor Burgos, is scheduled for theatrical release in March 2027.
According to Professor Orlando Ramos Ruiz, academic leader of Audiovisual Production and Film, Sagrado’s participation in the festival represents a valuable opportunity for students in the Audiovisual Production and Film program because it allows them to present their projects in a professional setting recognized by the local industry. He also highlighted Professor Kisha Burgos’ presentation as a reaffirmation of the quality of ECFR’s education and the value of having a recognized filmmaker represent the institution in key spaces for Puerto Rican cinema.
Burgos also emphasized the importance of Sagrado’s participation in events such as the Puerto Rico Film Festival, particularly because of the opportunity to bring students closer to the professional environment of the film industry.
“We are preparing film professionals in the Audiovisual Production and Film program, and it is important to connect students with that professional and industry environment. It is a good way for them to begin meeting new people and, in addition, for the community to have spaces for collaboration where we can learn from one another,” she said.
The participation of students and faculty from the Ferré Rangel School of Communication in the Puerto Rico Film Festival 2026 reaffirms Sagrado’s commitment to an academic education that empowers learning by doing. Through these experiences, students expand their knowledge, build industry connections, and strengthen the skills needed to lead impactful productions.
