(NOS) CUIDAMOS, a New Prevention and Quality of Life Program

It seeks to provide a support network for students in order to prevent the use of alcohol, drugs, and other substances.

(NOS) CUIDAMOS, or “(TAKING) CARE”, is Sagrado’s new institutional program aimed at preventing the inappropriate use of alcohol, drugs, and other substances among the student population.

According to Dr. Leslie González Morales, creator of (NOS) CUIDAMOS, in these times of health crisis due to COVID-19, prevention takes on greater relevance. Quarantine, the virtual semester, the economic crisis, and the losses they’ve suffered negatively affect people’s physical and mental health. These situations dramatically increase the chances for the inappropriate use of alcohol, drugs, and other substances. And so the (NOS) CUIDAMOS program was born with the aim of providing a support network for students and thus avoiding or reducing these risk behaviors.

“Prevention is social justice for every community. (NOS) CUIDAMOS wants to promote a student community that is healthier, as well as aware of and committed to their health. We want it to be a support network among equals: student leaders, teachers, and employees, so that together we can support the comprehensive human development of all students. Let no one be left behind or alone. Prevention is everyone’s responsibility. Each of us plays an important role”.

Some of the objectives of the program for the first semester 2020-2021 are:

1.  Increase active participation among students and professors as facilitators and promoters of a healthier lifestyle.

2.  Establish safe spaces for open, honest, and constructive dialogue on issues relevant to our youth.

3.  Raise awareness about the effects of drug and alcohol abuse on physical and mental health.
