Universidad del Sagrado Corazón won the Commissioner’s Cup of the Interuniversity Athletic League (LAI, per its Spanish acronym) for the sixth consecutive time during the 2026 Sports Festival, with a cumulative score of 1,642.5 points.
The Commissioner’s Cup is an award presented annually to institutions with an enrollment of 6,000 students or fewer for their athletic performance throughout the year. This year’s total surpasses the 1,480 points Sagrado achieved when it earned its fifth Commissioner’s Cup in 2025, reflecting the excellence and sustained development of Sagrado’s student-athletes.
During the first semester of the academic year, the Dolphins men’s and women’s teams began the LAI season with progress that positioned them as a respected force in the Sports Festival. Swimming was one of the standout disciplines, winning championships in both divisions and setting 14 new records. In tennis, the men’s team won the championship and the women’s team placed third. The women’s volleyball team finished as runner-up during the first semester, while the men’s team secured third place.
The total of three championships, one runner-up finish, two bronze medals, and 14 new records achieved during the past semester set Sagrado on track as a strong contender for the Commissioner’s Cup. This semester, the Dolphins teams once again stood out with historic victories, including second place in the basketball final series and gold medals for both divisions in beach volleyball for the first time. In addition, Sagrado reaffirmed its strong competitiveness in swimming by winning first place in the championship for both delegations.
Meanwhile, the Dance Team reached the podium for the first time, earning third place. The track and field team celebrated gold won by student-athlete Kiara Villa in the 800 meters.
These achievements are the result of the sacrifice, dedication, and discipline of Sagrado’s student-athletes who, under the leadership of Athletic Director Rafael Colón and with the support of managers, coaches, assistants, and athletic trainers, have proudly represented Sagrado in every competition.
In recognition of the achievements of its 190 student-athletes, Sagrado will hold its Sports Gala on June 2, 2026.
