This semester, Sagrado welcomed 37 student organizations, bringing together more than 700 student members committed to service, leadership, and turning ideas into projects that make a positive impact in their fields of study and communities.

This year, three new associations joined the community: the Business Analytics Association, under the School of Business; Sagrado Flag Football, under the Office of the Dean of Students; and the Musical Theater Association, under the School of Arts, Design, and Creative Industries.

Surrounded by members of the university’s leadership, faculty, and other members of the Sagrado community, students took an oath to represent the university with integrity, foster environments that support personal and professional growth, and help build a university community grounded in solidarity.

Ismavette Cotto, Sagrado’s dean of students, highlighted the value of student organizations in promoting hands-on learning, helping students discover new interests and talents, developing leadership skills, and strengthening ties within the university community.

Meanwhile, Ernesto Rodríguez Dietsh, president of the Student Council, called on students to work together with solidarity, empathy, and respect. “Leadership means knowing how to work with others, building bridges, and creating spaces where every voice can be heard,” he stated.

President Gilberto J. Marxuach Torrós placed the occasion in the context of three recent celebrations: September 16, marking the first class taught at Colegio Universitario del Sagrado Corazón (affectionately referred to as “El College”); Tree Day, observed on October 1 to honor the first class offered by Colegio del Sagrado Corazón; and, finally, September 30, when six Sagrado faculty members were promoted in rank. These three celebrations sought not only to honor the vocation of teaching and service that the Society of the Sacred Heart bequeathed to the university community, but also to affirm a vision for the institution’s future rooted in research, sustainability, and Christian values.

“Institutions like this one are built through years of hard work by people like you. You are not only seeds planted at our university; you are also the ones who sow those seeds. We all share the responsibility to lead and build, to serve something greater than ourselves: the common good,” President Marxuach Torrós said.
